~A Little History~
In September of 1998, our stately church building in Yorktown was destroyed by an arsonist's blaze. But what was meant to harm has, in God's hands and according to his perfect plan,
turned into good for our church, causing us to look ahead to the future, place our trust in him, and rededicate ourselves to his work.
Our new building was dedicated in June of 2000, and here God is continuing to bless us with his mercy and love.
Our building and location are new, but our congregation is not. We've been here in the area for over one hundred years, and due to God's grace alone, we are still going strong.
We used to be in the center of Yorktown, about two miles west and one mile south of our current location. Our history is closely tied to the Saxon immigrations of the mid to late 1800's.
At that time, many conservative Lutherans left Germany to escape the state sponsored church that was sacrificing sound biblical doctrine in favor of what was then being hailed as science,
humanism, and "new-modern Christianity"; which is no Christianity at all.
These people came to America in the hope of making a future for themselves where they could worship the God who reveals himself clearly in the pages Holy Scripture. They settled mostly in Missouri,
Illinois, and Iowa. Together they formed what is now the Lutheran Church Missouri-Synod. From those humble beginnings, they spread out to every state in the union, gladly receiving people from every
ethnic background, and have grown to become the second largest Lutheran denomination in America.
